Following three years of trading via two takeaway kiosks London’s popular Hong Kong style Siu Mei masters, Three Uncles, have announced the opening of their first restaurant.

Three Uncles Brixton will open in early March in Brixton Village taking on the previous site of Tiger and Pig at Unit 19 and 20, the former allocated to seated (25 covers available inside and within in the covered courtyard) and the latter housing the kitchen and counter.

The 600 square foot unit has been leased from AG Hondo Brixton Village and brokered by Anthony Williams of Four Prop.

Co-founder Mo Kwok (Uncle Mo) told Brixton Buzz:

“Siu Mei remains one of the most popular types of food for everyday Hong Kongers but in London you can only really find it in restaurants in Chinatown.

We’ve always wanted to make it available to all in local neighbourhoods as you would find across the Far East so we are excited to see our dreams realised to now have Three Uncles Brixton in South London alongside Liverpool Street in the East and Hawley Wharf Market in the North”

The original menu of house-roasted and chopped-to-order Cantonese meats will be served for eat in and delivery with the addition of new dining-in only dishes to encourage customers to visit the restaurant in person.

Pui Sing Tsang (Uncle Sidney) added:

“We launched just before the pandemic and while home delivery allowed us to survive and build a loyal customer base we want our restaurant to entice people out of their homes, bring them the joy of eating out, encourage family-style dining and recreate our memories of roast meat cafes typical of the Wan Chai area,”

The dining-in only dishes include siu mei sharing plate Uncle Mo’s Three Treasures (Cantonese Roast Duck, Crispy Pork Belly (Siu Yuk) and Char Siu Pork for two to share) classic Hong Kong family-style dishes Typhoon Shelter Prawns, Lotus Leaf Rice with Chinese Sausage, Steamed Chicken, Shiitake Mushroom & Chestnuts and Steamed Minced Pork & Preserved Vegetables.

The menu will also include Roast Duck and Char Siu Lai Fun Noodle Soup, a Hong Kong favourite rarely seen in the UK, made at Three Uncles with incredible homemade broth, fresh noodles and their exceptional roast meats.

“Lai Fun is a rice noodle with texture like a thin udon very popular in Hong Kong served in soup. We are very proud of our broth; we start with dozens of our roasted duck bones that carry all of the flavour from the herbs and spices of our 48-hour marinade. These are cooked down until they release all their roast duck flavour and aromatics into the light fragrant broth,” says Chong Yew (Uncle Lim).

Drinks will include Hong Kong Milk Tea, Hong Kong Ice Lemon Tea and a range of local South London craft beers and wine.

It all looks great for eat eaters, but sadly there appears to be absolutely zero vegan or veggie options available…
