“I love taking photos,” says Daryl McCormack, the star of the new movie Good Luck To You, Leo Grande. “I do a lot of photography on the street or of nature; if there’s a sunset or an interesting building, I’m taking my camera out. I look for candid moments that could easily not be seen.”

He found plenty of them on the Norwich set of Leo Grande, a smart comedy starring McCormack as a young sex worker and Emma Thompson as the woman who’s hired him. “Emma and I spent time together during the week of rehearsal we had before we shot the film, ad during our evenings, we’d cook dinner and sit down with Sophie Hyde, our director, to get to know one another,” McCormack says. “That really helped our bond. But we were also lucky to shoot chronologically. As you see Leo and Nancy meet and spend time together for the first time, Emma and I were also just starting to get to know one another, so we were able to grow as individuals alongside the characters.”
