Is “Vietnamese pizza” even better than the doughy, cheesy original?

The now-viral take on traditional pizza, which uses rice paper as its crust, has long been a popular street food in Vietnam. Now, it’s gaining notoriety everywhere thanks to TikTok — namely, users like @jasmineandtea, who makes the recipe look so, so delicious.

TikTokers were largely blown away by @jasmineandtea’s Vietnamese pizza recipe, which seems extremely simple and easy to execute.

“I need that,” one user wrote.

“Hold on, you can do that with rice paper?” another asked.

Honestly, it almost looks too good to be true. So, we decided we had to make it ourselves and find out. To see what happened, check out the video above or keep reading below.

To make this, we followed a recipe similar to @jasmineandtea’s, but with a few minor tweaks. Here’s what you’ll need:

Spring or summer roll wrappers

To start, heat a skillet to medium and toss in a flat sheet of rice paper (your spring roll wrappers). Add a few drops of chili oil, then crack an egg over the center and spread it around the entire rice paper crust. This will help your rice paper fold later on.

Next, add toppings. We went with cheese and sausage to make this a little more pizza-y, but you can use whatever you want here. As the cheese melts, add a healthy serving of Sriracha and Kewpie mayo.

Now it’s time to fold. Once the rice paper becomes malleable, flip it over itself like an omelet and let it cook for a couple more minutes. Remove from the heat and add more Sriracha and mayo.

Finally, cut your semicircle pizza into slices and get ready to dig in!

And there you have it. This recipe is very, very simple — it’s really just tossing ingredients in a pan.

More than that, it’s flat-out delicious. No, Vietnamese pizza isn’t the same as pizza, but it’s honestly just as yummy. It’s one of the best recipes we’ve ever tried on this show.
