MANSFIELD-STORRS, CT — Brooklyn Dumpling Shop, a Manhattan-based automat restaurant where nearly everything is served in dumpling form, has chosen Storrs as the location for its first franchise, the Hartford Courant reported.

Brooklyn Dumpling Shop serves burgers, cheesesteaks, pizza, gyros and more — all as a dumpling, the Courant said. The restaurant recently opened in Storrs Center, and manager Matt Rusconi said it's using a "new take on previous technology."

"It's back to the future," Rusconi told the Courant. "I love that I can bring this to Connecticut."

Automat restaurants, which were popular in the 20th century but have since mostly disappeared, serve food from a vending machine that's been backloaded from a kitchen.
